Your Ultimate Guide to Attending skucon 2021

Virtual conferences are an adjustment.

On one hand, they create new challenges for attendees, like the potential for technical hiccups and the inability to network face-to-face. But, on the other, they provide access to world-class events that were never before possible.

As is true with most aspects of life, the more you put into your virtual conference experience the more you’re going to get out of it, and we want to help you get the most out of your skucon 2021 experience.

Here is our guide for attending skucon 2021:

1. Create your Hopin profile and familiarize yourself with the app

Our virtual conference will be hosted on Hopin. Check your email for your skucon registration confirmation which includes a link to the Hopin event. If you haven't attended one of our virtual events before, you will be required to create a conference profile. If you have, simply click “Join Event”.

2. Follow us on social and connect with fellow attendees before the event

Follow us everywhere @commonsku and use #skucon2021 to share your stories. We will share event information, schedule/speaker updates, and more fun stuff leading up to and following the event.

3. Block your calendar and create a schedule

Visit skucon.com/schedule and review the sessions you don’t want to miss and pre-select your breakout sessions. Reviewing the schedule ahead of time and blocking your calendar will allow you to come up with a game plan so you aren't scrambling during the event.

4. Minimize distractions

Close those tabs! Shut that door! Put that phone away! Apply the same distraction etiquette you practice during an in-person conference to your virtual experience. You wouldn’t be typing away at emails directly in front of a keynote speaker, or checking Twitter while networking with a supplier partner in-person, so don’t let it fly during your virtual conference.

5. Stock your workspace with water and healthy snacks

Healthy snacking can improve your focus, creativity, and productivity. Taking some time before the event starts to pack some snacks, or even a lunch, will keep you from missing a single speaker.

6. Use a notebook

Virtual conferences can often seem like a blur of fast-moving information. Don’t let any great ideas pass you by! Jot them in a notebook. The act of physically writing will help you digest the content and gives you a summary to look back on later.

7. Stand up and stretch between sessions

It’s hard to focus if you’ve been sitting for an extended period of time. We have scheduled short breaks between sessions to give you time to walk around your workspace, take some deep breaths, and give your eyes a break from the screen. You’ll return refreshed and refocused for your next session.

8. Use a desktop/laptop computer, and test your camera and microphone

Hopin works best when you’re using a desktop/laptop, especially during the 1-on-1 video networking. We recommend using Chrome as your browser if possible to minimize technical difficulties.

9. Schedule a debrief with your team

You will most likely leave the event with a favorite session of the day, one that you walk away with pages and pages of notes on, and are excited to implement. Why not share your learning with your teammates?

10. Watch the recordings of sessions you missed

As an added benefit to our commonsku customers who attended commonsku skucon 2021, we will share the recordings and slide decks in our in-app content portal. If you're not on commonsku customer, fear not! You can find the content highlights on the commonsku blog.

We’re excited to ‘see’ everyone at skucon, January 7, 2021! There’s still time to learn more about the event and snag your tickets here.
