skucamp Takes a Break in 2020

Do you remember that electric feeling of looking forward to summer camp? Enduring those last stuffy school days that would grow more unbearable as the weather warmed? You knew it was just a matter of moments when you’d be back, hanging with your camp pals, stirring up trouble, conquering challenges, and drawing inspiration from the simple gift of community.

That anticipation was electric. 

That’s how we feel right now. Disappointment mixed with electric anticipation. 

For those that haven’t heard: It is with heavy hearts we must postpone skucamp Austin (previously scheduled for Sept 13-16, 2020). When the pandemic arrived in North America in mid-March, we always hoped that skucamp would be spared. But given how the pandemic situation has developed, and based on the expert advice available to us, we, unfortunately, had to make the very difficult decision to postpone the 2020 event.  

Note: Postponed not canceled. This is not an ending, but an intermission!   

The commonsku event team really struggled with this decision. Truth be known, it’s an event that we not only love and throw all of our passion into, but it’s also an event we draw inspiration from. skucamp isn’t merely another “event” for us, it’s an experience that can’t be duplicated. Which is why we decided that skucamp is not an event we could pull off virtually. It’s the one event we cherish sharing in person with you, and therefore, no virtual experience could come close to that unique camaraderie we all share at camp. 

Thank you to our speakers who are so willing to share their vulnerabilities and successes with the community on behalf of making us all better. Your passion for constant improvement and your willingness to teach others is what ignites our events. You light the torches and lead the way, and for this, we are immeasurably thankful for your contributions. 

To our fellow campers: You are the heart of skucamp. Attendees comment that what they value the most out of skucamp is the ability to sit with other entrepreneurs and, with all pretenses aside, struggle together, creatively solve together, and tackle the toughest challenges while inspiring each other to greater aspirations. Your willingness to not only show up and learn, but show up and share, is an inspiration to us all, and that’s the magic that makes camp special.

To our supplier partners: You are the lifeblood of the skucamp experience. And no, we don’t mean money. Every sponsor of skucamp is deeply invested in the experience. Your careful attention to the cherished skucamp merchandise that we all love and your participation and guidance alongside the speakers is every bit as educational as anything shared from the stage. Thank you for your lean-forward leadership and commitment to improving us all.

This truly breaks our hearts, but we remain eternally optimistic about the future of our industry and all commonsku events. We will be rescheduling skucamp and delivering an incredible in-person experience for you. We don't have a date just yet but rest assured, you will be the first to know.

For those that already purchased tickets (the event was nearly sold out!), we will be refunding all tickets in the next few days. And if skucamp was on your radar but you hadn’t purchased your ticket yet, keep it on your radar. Moreover, keep a lookout for some unique experiences we’re crafting in the meantime! 

To our industry family, whether you are a customer or not, please know that we are so thankful for your support but above all, we cherish the many friendships we’ve forged in this crazy but beautiful business. 

So, hang onto that electric anticipation, because there is no such thing as good-bye when it comes to camp, only see you soon. We’re already planning an awesome reunion and promise to make it the skucamp memory of a lifetime.
